Signs of Wind Damage in Your Home
Severe weather can do a lot of damage to a home, and not all of it is immediately obvious. You can probably spot damage from hail, flooding or a tornado, but damage from strong winds is a little harder to spot. To make matters worse, this is the kind of damage that can occur even if there technically hasn’t been a severe storm; a strong straight wind can hit your home without warning and cause as much trouble as any thunderstorm or blizzard.
The lesser damage caused by strong winds admittedly won’t require the kind of immediate attention that hail damage or flooding requires, but you should still keep an eye out for it. With that being said, here are some of the signs of wind damage that you might see in your home if you look hard enough.
Your roof’s shingles might start to curl and crack if they’re too old, but a strong wind can do a number on even the newest and sturdiest set of shingles. If you suspect that your home has been damaged by a strong wind, look for cracked, curling, or missing shingles on your roof.
Cracks and Chips in Your Siding
A strong wind might be able to peel chips off of your siding or stucco, but any damage to the outside walls of your house will be more likely to have been caused by flying debris. In any case, walk around your house and look for peeling or chipped paint or even entire siding panels lifting away.
Signs of Damage from Inside Your Home
If your roof has been damaged in a storm, you will likely notice signs of it from the inside of your house. These can include leaks, drafts that weren’t there before, or signs of water damage. This can be caused by a number of things, including a straight wind during a storm.
If you notice any of these signs of wind damage, contact a wind damage restoration service near you to fix the problem. The issues caused by severe weather will only get worse over time, so make sure you call somebody sooner rather than later.
